"Tell the chef, the beer is on me."
If you follow our accounts in the various social networks out and about, you’re certainly aware that we are posting loads of additional content there. Be it links to freebies, tutorials, interesting articles or other things worth mentioning. We dig up a lot in the widths and depths of the web. And we do actually share content, that hasn’t been created by our own team. These days we got a friendly email by one of our dear readers, asking us to not only publish these additionals in the social networks as this reader as well as many others are refusing to get engaged in socializing. In times of Prism and Tempora we can perfectly understand this approach. So we decided to curate the best links of each past week into one weekly article, starting today. Here you go…
A few months ago we introduced you to Unsplash.com, a project by Ooomf. Since then they kept promise and regularly released new images. Quality varies though. That’s why we decided to help separate the wheat from the chaff by publishing only the 10 best images released in September 2013. Have fun and do whatever you want with these gorgeous photos…
How was the month of August in your area of the globe? Over here in Europe we definitely had (and still have) some hot spots. So, if swimming is what you aim for, come over to the Mediterranean and be happy. If you’d rather refresh some web designs than your worn-out body stay with us and read on. Once again we roamed about the webs, searching for the freshest elements a web designer could be interested in. This is what we came up with.
Did you ever want to be reminded of your favorite design magazine each time you look at your computer desktop? Don’t deny, we know you did. WallpaperFX, our friends from Romania, took the challenge and created three great wallpapers in full Retina resolution of 2880 x 1800 pixels. Use them freely and adjust them to your liking. It’s better to scale a large image down, then to scale a small image up.
Our friends over at DesignShock</a> have created an excellent new resource for web design lovers and people who want to get into the brand new Bootstrap 3 interface quickly. As you already know, Twitter overturned Bootstrap’s UI concept and totally renewed the interface. This brave move surprised almost everyone in the web developer community. To grant for a smooth transition, the guys at aa<a href=" http:="" target="\">DesignShock released a free PSD package that’s really easy to use, helping designers and developers create models of themes, web pages, mobile and web apps. The file accurately emulates all the elements of the front-end interface. Inside it you will find a set of layers with all the elements you need to start designing.
A few weeks ago we introduced you to Unsplash.com, a project by Ooomf. Over the weekend our inbox saw another update with 10 more photos by different photographers, we thought we should share with you. If you want to receive regular updates on new photos, subscribe to their mailing list. Yet, if the quality of their contributions stays at the recent quality level, you can expect to see the photos on Noupe, too.
If there is a tiny little bit of space left on your webspace and you got that one sub-domain left to use, you should definitely take a look at MonstaFTP, a brand-new, free PHP script. MonstaFTP, released as Open Source under a GPL license, lets you access FTP server´s comfortably from right inside your browser. In combination with Chrome you can even upload whole folder structures via drag & drop. Generally, all modern browsers are supported.
This is the second compilation in our monthly series of brand-new HTML/PSD themes and UI elements. All the works exposed here are fresh resources from the month of July 2013. You will find another big set of ready to use themes, templates and elements for the web as well as completely editable files for your favorite image or vector editor. We got something for everybody…

Commercial use photos are always appreciated. In most cases, though, licensing is not as straightforward as you would want it to be. Studying license conditions is not what most of us like to struggle with. Some countries even have legal systems in place, where it is hard for the creator to waive all his legal rights, even if he explicitly wants to. The best way to stay out of trouble is to either shoot each and every photo by yourself or choose pictures with as little license overhead as possible. The new project Unsplash.com by freelancer-platform Ooomf.com promises to deliver exactly this kind of material.
Freerange Stock, relatively new to the market, is a stock photo provider sporting a different approach. All their images are freely usable for private and commercial use alike. They don’t even force you to backlink or attribute in any other way. Money isn’t requested, either. Photographers receive a share of the Adsense revenue of the site. There is only one precondition: you need to open a member account…
I don’t know anyone working in the field of web-related topics who has never heard the name Chris Anderson. Anderson has spent years at the top-spot over at Wired, one of the most renowned magazines of the last two decades. He is the author of the New York Times bestseller "The Long Tail", too. That book describes a new economy of mass-customization and niche-products. In "Free: The Future of a Radical Price" he analyzes how companies can make money offering their products for free. And it is this book itself, that now comes for this exact radical price: It’s a free download as an audiobook over at NoiseTrade.
If you happen to be looking for ready-made website-templates you need not search for long. Google brings up a bunch of sites, here at Noupe we don’t abandon you on that search either. When it comes to Google findings, chances are, you will, in most cases, not really be satisfied by the available quality of code or layout. In these case, read: in any case, you should visit the new service HTML5up. What you will find here are really elegant and modern templates for contemporary websites based entirely on HTML5 and CSS3, with a bit of JavaScript, obviously. These templates are not only entirely beautiful, they are also completely free.
Dribbble is great, but that filled with contributions, you simply cannot stay on top of things. Many members make their designs and other resources available for free downloading, while most members don't. Dribble in itself does not offer simple access to the many download resources the platform contains. So, if you are one of the seekers looking for ready-made designs or UI components, you will need to rely on third parties. Fortunately there are a few. Making use of the Dribbble API, Freebbble is one of these little helpers.
This is great, I promise. We know Finland for a lot of things, rubber boots for instance or - ehm - Helsinki. Angelos Arnis and Tomi Hiltunen want to add to this ample variety. They just published a set of device mockups, all in PNG and CSS, that you can actually bring to life with real content. You've got a web app for mobile clients you want to show on your website? Not very impressive, unless you present it inside the frames of its mobile boundaries. That's what Arnis and Hiltunen have built...
"Tell the chef, the beer is on me."
"Basically the price of a night on the town!"
"I'd love to help kickstart continued development! And 0 EUR/month really does make fiscal sense too... maybe I'll even get a shirt?" (there will be limited edition shirts for two and other goodies for each supporter as soon as we sold the 200)
